Hi folks! I recently got my own taxicab medallion here in San Francisco, and am now running the Kabaret Kab every Thurs., Fri., and Sat. night. A good time is had by all, and, you can take home a video (on DVD) of YOUR own unique cab ride, complete with live cabaret performance by yours truly! To see a You Tube of the Kabaret Kab experience,
go to the LINKS page here and click on the You Tube link. Thanks, and I hope to see you in my taxi soon!

Have You Been Busked By Buzz? - October 23, 2007

Have You Been Busked By Buzz? If you have had the occasion to ride in a van taxi in San Francisco within the last three years, chances are you have been busked by Buzz! He sang crazy songs to you. Perhaps you bought the CD! In any event, whoever you are, busked or not, PLEASE add your name to my email list (which I do not share), so that you can know when and where I will be performing. Just click on the "JOIN" button under my picture. Thanks!

Mr. Anomaly & Hat Trick - August 15, 2006

Mr. Anomaly and Hat Trick will do a few sets at Deja View on Sept 3rd. Watch your email for details!

Next Step - June 27, 2006

I have ceased my regular ramblings at the various open mics, in favor of assembling a trio to back me for gigs. So I'm in the "woodshed" stage until further notice. Check back in August, I may start to have a few gigs then. Thanks!

OPEN MICS - April 10, 2006

Having been besieged by multiple queries about WHERE and WHEN I will be doing live performances, I have opted to perform at open mics. As of APRIL 2006, these are the venues where you MAY hear/see me perform. I will not, of course, be able to be at every open mic every week; therefore, if you want to hear/see me perform, your best bet is to email or call me @ 415 794 BUZZ a few days before your planned venue-visit to see if, indeed, I am planning on being there.
SUNDAYS: Arguably the best open mic/jazz jam in the city, the jam at the Dogpatch Saloon starts at 4 pm. Veterans of all stripes show up here. Corner of 3rd and 22nd, S.F. 415 643 8892. After that, I'll go over to the Mission and hit SAVANNA JAZZ, around 9:30, 2937 Mission Street, San Francisco 415.285.3369
MONDAYS, at RASSELAS, starting at 8 pm. 1534 Fillmore, 415 346 8696. In the heart of the Fillmore Jazz district. Excellent musicians here. After that, i will mosey over to North Beach, to ENRICO'S, 504 Broadway, where I will sit in with Lavay Smith and Chris Seibert on piano. You have probably heard of Lavay Smith and the Red-Hot Skillet Lickers. This is their less formal small quartet gig, featuring Allen Smith on trumpet, and they have invited me to sing. I'll show up sometme after 9:30.
TUESDAYS Over in Berkeley, a nice new jazz club is ANNA'S JAZZ ISLAND. at 2120 Allston just off Shattuck. (510) 841-JAZZ. Show starts at 8, and is run by Ellen Hoffman, who knows just about every tune known to mankind. I probably won't go to this one too often, so check with me first.
WEDNESDAYS provide a plethora of venues for the open mic-er. In the Marina district of S.F. at 2231 Chestnut Street, is BISTRO YOFFI, 415 885 5133, where REG the M.C. and the Dee Spencer Quartet hold court starting at 8 PM.
Then I'll head to the Mission where I'll first stop at the OCTAVIA Lounge, 1772 Market St, S. F. 415 863 3516. Here you'll find one of the best, arguably, piano players in the Bay Area, David K. Matthews, with all-pro musicians. After that, I'll go a little deeper into the Mission and hit SAVANNA JAZZ 2937 Mission Street, San Francisco 415.285.3369.
If I'm not totally done in by then, I'll go over to AMNESIA, 853 Valencia—Between 19th & 20th
San Francisco • 415.970.0012
This jam starts about 10:30 pm, after other performances by two different jazz groups. Mitch Marcus is the leader, and expect to hear a lot of hot bebop.

So come on down to these venues, but check with me first, and call me @ 415 794 BUZZ on the nights you're out and about to see where I'm at.

Yet Another Sub-Genre Is Born - October 4, 2005

It's said that San Francisco is a hotbed of creativity, but there's probably a degree of overkill, what with every new self-styled artist coming along and creating their own self-described new spin on what is probably just another rehash of everything we've already heard.
Well folks, I'm sorry to report that a fellow from Daly City has further muddled things up by throwing his hat in the ring
as a "Purveyor of the Song-Play Arts." Isn't that just a fancy way to say, "DeeJay"?
"No, not at all", says Buzz Brooks, the arts criminal in question. "What I mean is,
'Song-Play' is just a euphemism for 'song-based playfulness'." It figures he'd try to weasel his way around criticism by throwing out a big word like that. Gosh, some of these nouveau purveyors are just incorrigible! ---
